I - what? Is your friend under the impression that Dipper and Mabel have the same personality, because that's the only way the dynamic would shake out the same.

Like, I could understand if he was comparing Ford and Dipper - the overly intellectual pair, and honestly the ships are shoulder-to-shoulder - but Mabel?

I haven't read enough Mabill to have a good grasp on how it's handled, but my goodness, no. That's a whole other twin. With completely different interests. A Mabel's relationship with Bill would be based more on chaos and frantic excitement, escapism and the lure of fun together forever, and Dipper's is formulated entirely on paranoia, scheming, one-upping and mutual antagonism.

Might be a hot take as a bkdk and tgck truther here, but I find izuocha endlessly fascinating, beautiful, but also tearfully tragic.

I see their love for each other as something representative of their innocence and naivety when they only knew so little about who they were, and what was to come.

I think the main barrier of their relationship is that its rooted in how they see each other very idealistically, specifically that they're attached to the image of their Best Heroic Selves, and not the deeply selfish, destructive, freaky, and egotistical parts of them. To each other, they need to keep fulfilling that image or else that same person they looked up to would almost die in front of them, and that would be too cruel. Although that hero is still there, that same person they looked up to is not the same now because of...well...everything.

Izuku had barely even talked to girls when he first met her. She was Izuku's first ever real friend (Sorry Kats, everyone and him knows he was terrible), so he saved her in that entrance exam even if it was so dangerous. She gave a new meaning to his derogatory nickname just by being a friend that believed in him. After that, she saved him several more times (Blackwhip and Megaphone are the biggest samples iirc). It makes perfect sense that she is Deku's hero.

Ochako hardly knew what it meant to be a hero when she first got into UA. Just by reaching out to some kid tripping, she made a new friend who would then save her in that exam, then save him again in return. This boy then became someone who was always working so hard to save everyone in trouble, and she realized she wanted to be just like him too. "I want to save people"

But...Deku changes. The weight of One for All is on his shoulders and he needs someone to carry this burden with him. He continues to want to save other people at the expense of himself, still not letting his true selfishness and ego ever show- and it only grows more and more unbearable.

Then...Ochako fell in love with Himiko. Truly, relentlessly, selfishly and devotedly in love with a girl who then dies giving her blood to her- the greatest expression of love Himiko could ever give.

Not that they can't love each other because of this happening (and...so many other things oh god), I'm honestly not sure how to explain it- But them ending up together after losing that innocence and naivety? After Ochako will forever grieve the girl who showed her love in its most beautiful and ugly form? After Izuku changed so fundamentally as a person that the butterflies of a nice girl talking to you doesn't exist anymore? After that simple image of being a hero and being in love has completely changed for them both?

Even so, I believe they still love each other. There is no label I know of that can properly describe them though. They are each other's image of being a hero when it comes to saving people. Aside from Shoto, no one else can grasp the grief of the person you tried to save dying in your hands. They would no doubt try to cope with these losses together, and just try to get better together...but so much has changed. They've changed. The world changed. What are they now? Who are they now?

Something I like about both T’Lyn in Lower Decks and T’Rina in Discovery is that they feel distinctly Vulcan, but in a different way than a lot of other Vulcans shown previously. T’Lyn is somewhat classically Vulcan in her mannerisms, but not in her actual behavior which is frequently impulsive and based on intuition. Not that no other Vulcan characters have had their impulsive moments, but T’Lyn as a character feels more strongly defined by them, and I like how this is shown to be a strength as often as it is a flaw. T’Rina has a subtly different demeanor from a lot of Vulcans portrayed previously that I think indicates a deep sense of compassion intertwined with logic that is reflected in her actions as well. She is open-minded about other ideas and philosophies in a way that has rarely been portrayed in other major Vulcan characters. Not to say that other Vulcan characters aren’t compassionate or open-minded, but I personally feel that T’Rina embodies these ideas more fully without it ever feeling like she’s less logic-oriented. These two characters are nothing like each other, but they both feel like new and fresh characters without being completely unrecognizable from Vulcans in older series.

Nagano Snowy Mountains case has to be one of my favorites for Conan & Rei interaction. From Conan asking Rei if he knows who Rum is and Rei's non-answer -

to Rei giving him a hint anyway -

which Conan then proceeds to not think about ever again, probably...

And then to have Rei like. Protecting Conan from Rum by acting like they barely know each other.

This was before the actual Rum identity reveal, but it was super obvious (imo) from the moment you meet this guy that he's Rum, and that's all beside the point anyway. The point is that, whether Rei knows this guy is Rum or not (which I believe he does), he's protecting Conan. And I love that.

Rei obviously thinks highly of Conan and his intelligence, and mostly treats him as an equal when it comes to investigations (and even needles him occasionally when Conan does something obvious, such as the most recent chapters in Poirot), so to have this moment where Rei realizes Conan's intellect could get him in trouble and act accordingly just sticks out to me as such a good moment for their relationship.

(Another thing I love about this case, unrelated to Conan, is the fact that Kuroda definitely called Koumei to be like "hey if you recognize Rei, no you don't.")

Anyway I just think about this case a lot. And definitely not for the case itself. This is one of those where I figured out the culprit from the moment they appeared based entirely on vibes.

I don't know how exactly to articulate it but Oro's boss fight dream dialogue~

"My path is mine alone..." And "Whatever it takes... I'll prove myself." Describing Hollow's beliefs/inner conflict.

While Mato's "Don't leave me behind!" And "Brothers always fight together!" Describes little Ghost's.

Also Mato and Ghost both feeling betrayed by their siblings but coming to their aid despite that!!

I feel like the main reason this evil shanks theory is so prevalent (besides the private meeting the the gorsei which up even I can’t explain) is that his general cheeriness and lackadaisical disposition is more of a presented front, a mask to be slipped on and off at will which would be fine if he weren’t often put in the same boat as Roger and Luffy two people ( for as much as we know about roger) who have no masks at all.

Don’t get me wrong I’m pretty sure that Shanks is a naturally happy, good natured dude but he’s also the most politically minded pirate we have seen on the show (and some of these pirates were actual politicians) like I’m pretty sure Roger is more mature and secretive than Luffy ( makes sense he’s older and has seen more of the world) but with both of them you never get the sense that their silliness is something they are putting on for the direct purpose of making themselves less of a threat. They both can get serious when the situation calls for it but that feels more of an extension of their already established personality more than a hidden personality.

While with shanks it’s undeniable that something changed within him and his goals the day Roger died I don’t know if Roger actually told him something or if he just wasn’t dealing with the abandonment well it was probably a mix of both honestly. But yeah Shanks comes off as a guy with his ear to the ground someone who has schemes on schemes on schemes. he’s someone playing in the long run, kind of like crocodile but not nefarious. And when compared with a straight forward head first always kinda guy like Luffy, like he often is, he can come off a little suspicious.

There’s something that’s a little fake about his cheer, something a little too performative about his optimism and foolishness. I think it’s a mix of; he’s housing a deep sadness, he’s more of a realist that an optimist and also dudes just a pacifist unlike like luffy who loves to brawl ( like luffy knows when it’s better not to fight but he also loves a good fight) and he would rather deescalate a situation than fight it out and sometimes the easiest way to do that is with an air of cluelessness and making yourself seem less of a threat which makes it so much more jarring but effective when he reveals just how big a threat he is. but I can see why people think it’s suspicious.

(Interestingly even when luffy tries to emulate this behavior like when he first encountered Bellamy at the pub his plan is to just not react which while in the same vain is very different than Shanks actively playing the drunken good natured take it on the chin role for the bandits Luffy was still essentially himself he just refused to react while Shanks played a role which made it more terrifying and effective when he stopped)

Also it doesn’t help that until recently he’s largely been missing from the narrative with just a man echoing or a whisper here or there of how powerful he is.

But I think we should remember that Shank’s goal is essentially world peace. and peace, a true lasting peace, is just a little more of a precarious balancing act, than utmost freedom. For freedom you have to destroy the old game, for peace you have to learn to play a new one, hopefully with a bit more kindness injected into the foundation.
